When you create an account we store your email address, your first name, your account type (homeowner, builder or developer), what you primarily use the app for, and your saved app preferences such as notifications and units.
Authentication is handled by our hosting and backend provider. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes and are never visible to us. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (providing your account).
Projects, saved estimates, cost items, budgets and contingency settings you create are stored against your account. This can include client names, site locations, notes, quantities and prices you enter.
Access controls restrict this data to your own account. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with other users. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
When you submit an Expert Advice enquiry or a support message we store your name, email, the service or category selected, your project type and area if given, your preferred contact method and your message, so we can reply and keep a record of the request.
Lawful basis: performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
No third-party analytics or production error-reporting providers are currently in use. We may still collect limited, aggregated usage information (for example, pages viewed and device type) directly through our hosting infrastructure to keep the app working and to decide what to improve. This is not used to build marketing profiles.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, or consent where required.
We use your email address for essential service messages such as sign-in, password resets and replies to enquiries. If you turn on push notifications we may send relevant app notifications; you can turn them off at any time in You.
We will only send marketing messages if you have opted in, and every marketing message will include an unsubscribe option.
Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe, our third-party payment provider. When you subscribe, Stripe collects and handles your payment details securely on their own systems. Builder in My Pocket does not store full payment card numbers, card security codes or bank account details. We hold only a Stripe customer reference, your chosen plan, subscription status and invoice history so we can manage your account and entitlements.
Account and project data is kept while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account we will remove your account and project data within 30 days, subject to records we must keep for legal, regulatory, fraud-prevention or accounting reasons (typically up to 6 years for financial records).
Enquiry records are kept for up to 24 months after the enquiry is closed, unless longer retention is reasonably required for legal, regulatory or dispute purposes.
You can delete your account yourself at any time from Your account (see “Delete account”). Deleting your account removes your profile, projects, saved estimates and cost records, and cancels any active paid subscription. You can also email hello@builderinmypocket.co.uk to request deletion.
Builder in My Pocket does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We rely on first-party browser storage (localStorage) on your device for functions that are strictly necessary to run the app, so no cookie consent banner is shown under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
The items stored on your device are:

Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure provided by our backend host (Lovable Cloud / Supabase) in the EU-West-2 (London, UK) region. Stripe payment data is held on Stripe's own infrastructure under their data processing terms.
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by the standard contractual clauses and data-processing safeguards included in our provider agreements.
Under UK GDPR you can request access to your data, correction of inaccurate data, erasure, restriction of processing, portability, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can also withdraw consent where consent is the basis used.
